Lesson plan.Grade 6.


Тема: A Healthy Person - a Healthy Nation.
Мета  уроку:
Навчальна: -  опрацьовувати  лексичні одиниці з теми  «Їжа»;  тренувати вживання їх у мовленні;
                        -тренувати вживання модального дієслова should/ should not;
Розвиваюча: - розвивати комунікативні вміння та навички учнів;
                         - розвивати память, уяву, мислення, вміння аналізувати, активність і спостережливість
                          учнів;          
Виховна:   -  виховувати в учнів бажання дбати про своє здоровя, правильно харчуватися,
                       вести здоровий спосіб життя;                                  
             - виховувати в учнів національну свідомість, самосвідомість та ментальність,  любов до 
               рідної країни її традицій, власну відповідальність за рідну країну.

Обладнання:   компютер, проектор, мультимедійна презентація, наочність, підручники, зошити, словники.
Procedure
1.      Introduction. Greetings.

- The subject of our today’s lesson is very global. It’s health. It sounds:  “  A HEALTHY PERSON - A HEALTHY NATION” ( slide 1)
-So let’s think, what can make a person healthy.
-Look at the list at the blackboard and choose the factors that can make us healthy.

-So at our lesson we will talk about meaning of healthy food for our life.
Our moto is: A sound mind in a sound body.
We will:  introduce and practice vocabulary “Food”
                Use the modal verb “should/should not”
                Develop communicative skills

2.      Warming-up

-Find the names of Ukrainian national dishes in the list.
-Are they home-made food or fast food?

3.      Speaking task. Work in pairs
-As we see, Ukrainians like home-made dishes.
-I prepared dialogues for you. But sentences are mixed. Put them in the correct order and act.

-Hi, I’m Tom, I’m from England.
Hello, I’m Mariana, I’m from Ukraine.
-What is your favourite dish?
-I love borshch best of all. It’s Ukrainian national dish. You should try it.
-Is it sweet?
-No, it’s a type of vegetable soup.
-What products do you use for it?
-Some meat, beets, potatoes, carrots, beans, onions and some sour cream.
-Wow, it’s a really healthy dish!

Dialogue 2
-What should you eat for being healthy?
-My diet should include meat, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, cereals.
-Do Ukrainians eat much junk food?
-No, really. The most popular national dishes are borshch, varenyky, cabbage rolls filled with rice, pancakes with cottage cheese, chicken bouillon, and many others.
-It’s great. These dishes are delicious and healthy.
-Yes, Ukrainian cuisine is one of the best in the world.

4.       Reading (slide 5)
Pre-reading task
-Ukrainians are strong people, and I think our food help us with that.
Let’s read the text about Food Habits of Ukrainians.
1)      Vocabulary work

Food Habits of Ukrainians
      Every nation has its own food habits and cooking styles. Some cuisines are really popular in the world, like Chinese cuisine, Italian, Japanese, Indian.
      The Ukrainians are famous with their home-made food.  And it makes Ukrainian meals one of the healthiest in the world. Fast food and pre ready dishes are not typical for our cuisine.
       The Ukrainians have meals four times a day. Breakfast is the first meal of the day. It is usually light-
bread with butter or jam, cereal with milk, pancakes with coffee or tea. Sandwiches with coffee are very popular also.
       Dinner is usually in the middle of the day. It includes three courses. People have salads, soup, steaks, meat or fish with a side dish, a lot of bread and something to drink like compote.
       At 4 or 5pm the Ukrainians may have something for a snack: cakes with juice, tea, fruits or something like that.
        Supper in Ukraine means one more big meal at 7pm.
        A lot of Ukrainians grow vegetables and fruits at their gardens, so they get fresh and organic products for their kitchens.

5. Relaxing pause (slide 7)
- As we said, physical exercises are important for our health also. They help us to keep fit and be happy. So let’s have a rest. Stand up, please.

6.       Use of English. Writing task. ( slide 8)
-Look at the pictures, there are some products that can help us to feel well.
There are advises for us below, write them down to your copy-books and choose the missing word for every advice.
1)      You should drink ………. for getting relax.
2)      You should eat …….., it’s good for your brain.
3)      You should eat ………, it keeps you from catching colds.
4)      You should eat ……… , it’s good for your eyes.
5)      You should drink warm……… if you can’t sleep.

7.       Listening ( Slide 9 Song “ Healthy Food Will Make You Smile”)
-Listen to the song about food.
1) Pre listening task
-Try to remember food names as much as you can.
2) After-reading task
a) Write names of food you could hear while listening to song. One team will choose healthy food, the second team –junk food.
(chocolate, ice cream, chips, cake, hot dogs, hamburgers, grains, bananas, bread, grapes, pasta, apples)
-Let’s read which words you found.

9.      Summary

1)Project work.
Let’s imagine you are a group of businessmen and you want to open the Ukrainian cuisine restaurant. It will be the restaurant of healthy food. You will prepare the menu for your restaurant.
