Flashcard activities

 Activity: Story board 
Aim: To practise language (productive) 
Procedure: Divide learners into groups of four Place flashcards face down. Each group chooses five flashcards without looking Groups have to make a story or dialogue, using the flashcards they chose

Activity: Guess what? 


Aim: To review language (productive)

 Procedure: Hide one flashcard behind the board and slowly reveal the picture Participants shout out what they think is on the flashcard Show the whole flashcard 

Activity: Listen and point

 Aim: To check understanding (receptive) 
Procedure: Hang up flashcards around the room Say a word e.g. ‘cat’ Learners point to the correct flashcard 

Activity: What’s missing? 

Aim: To review language (productive)
 Procedure: Take a group of about five flashcards Show them to the learners one by one, asking ‘What’s this?’ each time Remove one flashcard and hide it Show the flashcards again, one by one and quickly. Ask ‘What’s missing?’ Learners guess the missing flashcard 

Activity: Slap it! 

Aim: To review language (receptive) 
Procedure: Fix flashcards on the board Put learners into two or more teams. They line up in front of the board Say a word, and the person who is standing at the front of each team runs to the board and slaps the correct flashcard. The team to slap it first wins a point The learners at the front go to stand at the back of their line, and the game goes on
